A Little Tip

If you are fishing with lures and you miss a strike, don’t be in a hurry to reel your bait in as fast as you can. A lot of people miss a fish, then reel in really fast and throw back at that fish. The thing to do is twitch your bait like a wounded shad would do if a fish hit him. If you think or know you missed a fish, stop and start twitching the end of your rod very erratically and rapidly. This makes your bait look wounded.

NOW….. hang on. This technique will trigger the fish to strike again. We have caught many nearly missed fish by doing this!

I have updated the OurOldHouse website, I apologize for getting so far behind. Days, months (and years) go by wayy too fast. Especially when you are having fun! Eagle Creek on Lake Shelbyville Closed

Yes, it is true that Eagle Creek is closed. We are watching for updates on the situation and will post if we hear anything. We still have a few openings for the summer and fall at Our Old House if anyone needs a great place to stay! The new July 27 2009 fishing report has posted and fishing on Lake Shelbyville has been absolutely fantastic this year!

Updated Fishing Report!

We hope everyone had a safe and fun 4th of July! We sure had a good time at our fish fry. We got rained out on Sat, but made a good recovery on Sunday the 5th. The weather was nice, company was excellent and the fish were yummy!

White Bass Bite is Good

Good news! A new fishing report is coming tomorrow because we have new info to report this week. The white bass fishing has been excellent. We fished every day and caught loads of white bass each day from point 3 south. Check the report tomorrow and we will summarize what is working for us. We kept 45-65 a day that we cleaned to eat for our annual fish fry. YUM!! We caught quite a few big white bass too…….. that we put back.

White Bass Lake Shelbyville

Barb and I have fished for whites the last two nights from 6:30 to 8 pm and found them schooling on the new shad fry. We kept 64 the first night and 49 the next. We caught them on the two jig rig and we had fun doing it. We found fish on the surface from point 3 south to the dam.

White Bass

Started our trolling and casting crankbaits for walleye. Only caught one short fish and two largemouth. Decided to head up Sand Creek to look for white bass and found them around 6 PM. Caught around 70 fish with several in the 11-13 inch range. One fish was 13.5 inches.

Fished for 6hrs today for bass and walleye with crank baits and texas rigged worms. We caught a few small bass and 1 17in walleye and 1 small mouth bass, it was only about 8in long. Thats the 4th small mouth I’ve ever caught in this lake in 39 years of fishing it. We also got into some schooling white bass feeding on the new shad fry,we caught them on the 2 jig rig fishing it fast on the surface. All and all it was a fun day and fishing is getting better. Good luck and take someone fishing.

For anyone interested; If you want to catch walleye on Lake Shelbyville, book a trip with Don or Barb. I gained at least 5 years of experience with Don on a single June afternoon in 2003. And that isn’t even close to an exaggeration. He is a great teacher, and I’m sure Barb is too! They can show you the proper knots, baits, depths, sonar usage and other things to look for to help you consistently catch walleye in May and June (maybe all year as far as I know). I should say that I do not work for Don and Barb, I’m only providing a testimonial from a very satisfied customer. I will state beyond a shadow of a doubt that I would not be catching fish like the 7lb 5oz walleye appearing on this blog if it weren’t for Don.
