Fished for 6hrs today for bass and walleye with crank baits and texas rigged worms. We caught a few small bass and 1 17in walleye and 1 small mouth bass, it was only about 8in long. Thats the 4th small mouth I’ve ever caught in this lake in 39 years of fishing it. We also got into some schooling white bass feeding on the new shad fry,we caught them on the 2 jig rig fishing it fast on the surface. All and all it was a fun day and fishing is getting better. Good luck and take someone fishing.

Don,
Has IDNR made any attempts to stock Lake Shelbyville with smallies? I have talked to two people who claim to have caught single smallmouth around 12″. I don’t know much about smallmouth habitat, other than they need rock and gravel. Given the success with walleye stockings, one would think that smallmouth stockings could work. I have caught dozens of 2-5 lb smallies in the boundary waters and farther north. It would be awesome to catch a 2lb smallie here!
Fred,
I know that they stocked a few last year and I have not heard anything this year. The river before the lake was made had small mouth and you can still go down river below the lake and catch some nice fish.
